24 Feb If Your Marketing Isn’t Working, Change it!
Remember the E*TRADE baby – the precocious little kid who was the “pitchman” for E*TRADE?
Well he’s been retired and metaphorically put out to pasture because he is no longer effective.
Why you may ask?
Simply because E*TRADE has found a better way to reach a broader, more easily defined, less costly and more responsive market using Internet marketing.
Now, this may not be earth shattering news, but it does signal a shift in the way that traditional marketers are beginning to view the Internet and is a warning shot across the bow for smaller marketers who continue to cling to old methods of marketing rather than embracing the future.
My question to you is, which kind of marketer are you; where do you stand on the growth and development of your business? Are you of the opinion that this “Internet thing” will run it’s course, or are you fully embracing the future?
For those of you ready to face the realities head-on, the statistics are astounding:
- A balanced SEO approach provides an average 300% in traffic growth in the first 6 months.
- 89% of consumers search Google, Bing or some other search engine BEFORE purchasing.
- 79% of consumers “Like” or follow brands to get more information on company products and services
- Consumers use on average 7.9 different media sources when shopping for products or services in their local area.
- 71% of consumers trust online review sites while only 47% trust television commercials.
- Just to name a few…
But the question for most is, “how do I take advantage of this change without it costing me an arm and a leg?” The truth is, owning and running a business is expensive but the rewards for a job well done are huge.
When you devote the resources necessary to build your business, it creates dividends outside the business as well. For example, if you had extra cash, would you go on vacation with your family? Would you lead a better more fulfilled life? As long as you are a person who knows how to maintain balance in your life, chances are good that you will.
Investments in marketing can’t be made by choosing the cheapest methods, but SHOULD be made based on value. Don’t always choose the cheapest option, as you might find yourself getting a lackluster return on your investment and wasting your hard earned money.
Instead, be bold and take a stand. Your business requires boldness in order to survive and ultimately flourish, so try new things and test their effectiveness. You can’t fix what you can’t measure, so consistently measure your progress so you know where to invest your resources.
Finally, if something isn’t working, change it… E-Trade decided to get rid of the baby because traditional marketing methods did not have a true tie to revenue, were hard to measure and were no longer working for them; they took the bold step of switching to an all digital marketing campaign to get better accountability and results and you should too…
